Djed Spence completes permanent move from Tottenham to Inter Milan

Djed Spence has completed a permanent move from Tottenham to Inter Milan on 15 August 2026: a five-year contract, confirmed by both clubs. Reported fees differ by source.

Fee and terms

Both clubs confirmed the permanent transfer and a five-year deal. The fee is reported differently: ESPN says "around €30 million" citing sources; Sports Mole reports £30m plus a 10% sell-on clause for Spurs; Italian outlets report €31.5m fixed plus bonuses. Those figures do not convert into one another, so at least one is wrong — we will update when a club publishes an official number. Spence originally joined Spurs from Middlesbrough in July 2022 for £19m plus add-ons — including £1m triggered by his England debut in September 2025 — with a loan spell at Genoa in 2024 in between.

Why Spurs let him go

Spence made 85 appearances for Tottenham and was part of the Europa League-winning squad that ended the club's 17-year wait for a trophy. He also played all eight games for England at the 2026 World Cup, starting the semi-final against Argentina. But ESPN reports head coach Roberto De Zerbi did not see him as essential, having called Pedro Porro the "best in the world" at right-back. At Inter he replaces Denzel Dumfries, who left for Real Madrid.

Tottenham open the Premier League away to Brentford on Saturday 22 August (23:30 Vietnam time), having sold both Spence and Cristian Romero inside a week.
